It is one of the famous ancient mosques in Cairo. It was built by Khoshyar Hanim, the mother of Khedive Ismail in 1286 AH 1869 AD, then Khoshyar Hanim died in 1303 AH 1885 AD, and the construction project remained suspended for about 25 years until the reign of Khedive Abbas Hilmi II in 1905, who completed it in 1329 AH 1911 AD, and the mosque was opened for prayer on the first of Muharram 19 AH 1330 AD. In the mosque there are the tombs of the two Sheikhs Ali Abi Shubbak and Yahya Al-Ansari, as well as the tombs of the royal family in which Khedive Ismail and his mother Khoshyar Hanim, the founder of the mosque, his wives and children, Sultan Hussein Kamel and his wife, King Fuad I, and King Farouk I lie. The site of the mosque in the past was “Zawiyat Al-Rifa’i” in which Sheikh Ali Abi Shubbak Al-Rifai is buried, and his tomb is located in the mosque until now, and from it the mosque took its name. . The Arab Contractors Company repaired the mosque’s building, prevented the roof from being dangerous, and insulated it against water and heat.
