The bridge dates back to 1983, as it connects the governorates of Cairo and Qalioupia over Ismailia Canal. It is located at Al Amiriya area in Cairo and serves traffic between the 2 sides of the canal. The total length of the main bridge is about 680m, while its width is 36m. It consists of 2 directions, each of which includes 4 traffic lanes, in addition to a canal ramp consisting of 2 traffic lanes.
The project scope of work:
- Carrying out reinforcement and rehabilitation works for all concrete structural elements of the bridge, including columns, foundations, longitudinal beams, and concrete slabs.
- Maintenance and upgrading of the POT Bearing metal piles, to ensure smooth load transfer and thermal expansion, in addition to surface treatment and the implementation of painting and finishing works using an anti-carbonation protection system to resist corrosion and weather changes. The development of the traffic safety levels included raising and reinforcing the curbs, side platforms, the central island above the bridge, and the construction of a concrete barrier “Jersey” for Ismailia Canal ramp instead of metal fences, upgrading the efficiency of the metal fences above the bridge. Besides, the works included supplying and installing 4 height limiters to protect the bridge body and prevent collisions of cars and tall trucks.
- Scraping the old asphalt and implementing high-quality paving layers for the bridge, including the approaches and landings, installing modern expansion joints (Thermal Joint), in addition to implementing traffic lane planning works and signs.
