The Minister of Local Development inaugurates Al Amiriya Bridge

Dr. Manal Awad - the Minister of Local Development, accompanied by Dr. Eng. Hossam Abdel Fattah – Qalioupia Governor, and Dr. Ibrahim Saber – Cairo Governor inaugurated the development and upgrading works of Al Amiriya Bridge, following the completion of the development works aiming to improve the structural condition of the bridge and raise its traffic efficiency, in the presence of Dr. Eman Rayan - Deputy Governor of Qalioupia, Major Gen. Omar Mahmoud El Shafei - Deputy Governor of Cairo for the Northern Region, Eng. Gihan Masoud – Secretary General of Qalioupia Governorate, Dr. Mohamed Akl, Assistant Secretary-General of Qalioupia Governorate, Dr. Salwa Abul Enein - Acting Head of Shoubra El Kheima City, Mr. Yasser Ibrahim - Head of East Shubra El Kheima District, Eng. Safaa Mosaad – Manager of the Roads and Transportation Directorate in Cairo Governorate, Eng. Yasmine Hendawy – Manager of the Bridges Department at the Roads and Transportation Directorate in Cairo Governorate, and a number of executive leaders from the Ministry and the two governorates. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Eng. Hassan Ibraheem - Board Member of the Arab Contractors Company Eng. Yasser Sadek - AC Executive Board Member, representing the Arab Contractors Company, which carried out the works. Eng. Ehab Khafagui - Deputy Manager of the Bridges and Specialized Structures Department and Manager of the Repair and Restoration Unit at the Arab Contractors Company, explained that the company implemented the design, development and efficiency improvement works of the bridge, which dates back to 1983, as it connecting Cairo and Qalioupia governorates over Ismailia Canal, and is located in Al Amiriya and serves traffic between the 2 sides of the canal. The total length of the main bridge is about 680 m, 36 m width, and it consists of two directions with 4 traffic lanes for each, in addition to a ramp consisting of 2 traffic lanes. He pointed out that the total value of the project works amounts to LE 152 million, jointly funded by the governorates of Cairo and Qalioupia “as part of their investment plans”, explaining that the project works included the implementation of reinforcement and rehabilitation works for all the concrete structural elements of the bridge, including the columns, foundations, longitudinal beams and concrete slabs. Eng. Ahmed Hussein - the Project Manager, explained that the work included maintenance and upgrading of the POT Bearing metal piles to ensure smooth load transfer and thermal expansion, in addition to surface treatment and the implementation of painting and finishing works using an anti-carbonation protection system to resist corrosion and weather changes. The scope of work included raising traffic safety levels by reinforcing the handrails, side platforms and the central island above the bridge, and the construction of a concrete barrier “Jersey barrier” for Ismailia Canal ramp instead of the metal fences, in addition to upgrading the efficiency of the metal fences above the bridge. He pointed out that the work included supplying and installing 4 height limiters to protect the bridge structure and prevent collisions with cars and tall trucks. The project manager concluded that the development work included scraping the old asphalt and implementing high-quality paving layers for the bridge, and installing modern expansion joints (Thermal Joint), in addition to implementing traffic lane planning and signs.
