The lock is constructed along the Nile main stream to cater for the rapid development of the Nile navigation vessels. The works included the diversion of the Nile stream as well as all the associated civil, electromechanical and metal works. It also includes the construction of the required facilities for lock administration, staff accommodation, general stores and workshops.
