Mauritanian Minister of Equipment and Transport discusses the “Tramway” project in Nouakchott, with Arab Contractors

Mr. ELY SID'AHMED ELVEIRICK- Mauritanian Minister of Equipment and Transport met with Eng. Sayed El Wazir - Vice Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, in the presence of Ambassador Dr. Ahmed Taye - Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Mauritania. The meeting focused on cooperation in implementing the tramway project in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, reflecting the growing Egyptian-Mauritanian cooperation in infrastructure and urban transport. The company's delegation presented the preliminary studies prepared by the Arab Contractors for the project, which included proposals for tramway routes within Nouakchott, as well as several proposals for project financing mechanisms. This meeting falls within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two parties in July 2022, which was extended for one year during the meeting. This extension underscores the confidence in Egyptian expertise and the capabilities of the Arab Contractors Company in executing major transport and infrastructure projects across the African continent. The Mauritanian Minister of Equipment and Transport emphasized the project's importance in developing the transportation system and facilitating the movement of citizens within and outside the capital. He praised the cooperation with the Egyptian side and the distinguished technical and engineering expertise of the Arab Contractors Company. He also directed the relevant technical authorities to expedite the review of the submitted proposals in order to finalize the necessary technical procedures for the project, thereby supporting development and urban planning efforts in Mauritania.
