Arab Contractors won the Liveable City Initiative of the Year award for the East and West Nile Monorail project, implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport, at Big 5 Global Impact Awards 2025 ceremony. This award highlights pioneering projects that directly impact the quality of life in major cities.
Greater Cairo Monorail project is considered one of the most important modern projects in the smart transportation sector, contributing to easing traffic congestion, enhancing transportation sustainability, and connecting new urban communities to vital centers in the capital.
The judging panel praised the implementation standards, quality of work, and sustainability criteria adhered to by the company.
In another achievement, the JV of the Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric received the Highly Commended Award in the Partnership of the Year category for Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant & Dam project in Tanzania, one of the largest energy projects in Africa with a generating capacity of 2115 MW. It includes a main concrete dam 1025 meters long and 130 meters high, 4 saddle dams with a storage capacity of 33 billion m3, a generating station and a 400 kV substation, electricity transmission lines to the public grid, a 660-meter-long water diversion tunnel and a main spillway with 7 gates, an integrated residential complex for engineers and workers, in addition to administrative and control buildings, workshops and facilities. It was implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities in Egypt for the benefit of the Tanzanian Ministry of Energy.
This international recognition reflects the extent of engineering cooperation between the 2 companies in implementing a mega-project that serves development in Tanzania, supports the availability of clean energy, and showcases Egypt's capabilities in executing national projects across Africa according to the highest international standards.
The awards were received by Eng. Hamdy Farag - Manager of the Arab Contractors Company in Dubai.
