Following his follow-up on a number of projects in Beheira Governorate, Eng. Sherif El Sherbiny - Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities visited New Alamein City, where he inspected the project to establish a seawater desalination plant with a capacity of 10,000 m³/day for irrigation purposes and the plant’s intake. He was accompanied by officials from the Ministry, New Alamein City Authority, and the Egyptian Water and Wastewater Regulatory Agency (EWRA). The Housing Minister was accompanied by Eng. Ahmed El Assar - Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, Eng. Hassan Mustafa – Senior Vice Chairman, and Eng. Heba Abu Al Ella – Vice Chairman. At the beginning of his tour, the Minister of Housing emphasized on the state’s interest in seawater desalination and its commitment to expanding this sector, as it is one of the most important pillars of sustainable development. He also highlighted greater reliance on the latest technologies used in this field, which will contribute to enhancing and maximizing the efficiency of desalination plants and their production capacity. Eng. Sherif El Sherbiny - Minister of Housing, emphasized that Egypt’s National Desalination Strategy seeks to adopt advanced solutions and technologies to meet the needs of the potable water and wastewater sector. This is achieved through the implementation of seawater desalination projects and the reuse of treated wastewater, with a focus on localizing the technologies used to meet the growing demand for water. The Minister added that modern technologies are being used to rationalize energy consumption in desalination processes, reuse treated wastewater, and maximize the benefit from private sector expertise in water purification, seawater desalination, and wastewater treatment projects. The tour was attended by Eng. Hesham Safwat - Head of Alexandria Sector, Eng. Mohamed Qotb – Manager of Alexandria Branch, and Eng. Ahmed Moustafa – Deputy Branch Manager.
