The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Housing inaugurate the “Builders of Egypt" Forum

Lieutenant General Kamel El Wazir - Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, Minister of Transport and Industry, and Eng. Sherif El Sherbiny - Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, inaugurated the 10th edition of the Builders of Egypt Forum. The forum discussed mechanisms for developing sustainable coastal cities, presented comprehensive development and investment maps to private sector companies and development partners abroad, and announced the targeted plan to launch New Al Alamein City as an international exhibition and conference center. The forum witnessed the participation of the Arab Contractors Company represented by Eng. Heba Abu El Ella - Vice Chairman, and AC Board Members Eng. Mohamed Elwi and Eng. Hassan Ibrahim. Besides, the participation of a large number of Arab, African, and Islamic delegations, international development partners, a host of ambassadors, and representatives of major investment and financing companies and institutions concerned with urban development. In his opening remarks, Lieutenant General Kamel El Wazir - Minister of Transport and Industry pointed out that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi vision is to build a modern Egypt and achieve the new republic, with all the development and prosperity it entails in various fields. He added that the President emphasized that we are a country that builds and develops, and whose primary goal is the interest of the people, securing the homeland, and achieving true peace. Lieutenant General Kamel El Wazir stated that the state has launched major projects in the transportation sector, including the high speed rail, national road networks, advanced ports, and new railway lines. He emphasized that these projects are not only for passenger transport, but also serve the agriculture, industry, and tourism sectors, linking them together in an integrated development system. The Minister of Housing Sherif El Sherbiny said that Egypt has succeeded, over the past 10 years of comprehensive development in doubling its urban area from 7% to 14%, aiming at increasing this percentage to 18% by 2030. He added that this urban development is based on establishing 4G cities such as the New Administrative Capital, New Al Alamein, and New Mansoura. Eng. Sherif El Sherbiny emphasized that the Decent Life Initiative “Haya Karima” is one of the pillars of this urban development, as it is one of the greatest initiatives and projects in the world, aiming to develop 1,700 villages across the country. He explained that one of the pillars includes developing slum and unsafe areas while providing safe alternatives and fair compensation for citizens, which has been implemented in several areas such as Maspero Triangle. It’s worth noting that the forum will discuss, through specialized sessions, the best international practices in developing coastal cities and enhancing their efficiency and sustainability. This will enable the exchange of leading expertise and experiences in building, operating, and managing these cities in accordance with global sustainability standards, and will maximize the benefits of the geographical nature, tourism and economic potential of coastal cities through dedicated sessions for major private sector companies and financing institutions. Thus, the forum will also present the available investment and public-private partnership “PPP” opportunities.
