The Minister of Transport, Lieutenant General Kamel El Wazir followed up the readiness of the first and second phases of the Light Rail Transit “LRT”. The two phases are currently being piloted, extending from Adly Mansour station to the City of Arts and Culture station in the New Administrative Capital. The Minister was accompanied by Major General Essam Waly - Chairman of the National Authority for Tunnels, Eng. Mustafa Abu Al-Makarem - President of the Railways Authority, and Major General Hossam El-Din Moustafa - Head of Roads and Bridges Authority, Eng. Sayed Farouk – CEO and Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, Eng. Ibrahim Mabrouk – AC Board Member, Eng. Ahmed Shawki – JV Manager of Cairo Metro Line 3 Phase 4, Eng. Sayed Farg – Head of Bridges and Foundation Sector. The tour started from the giant Adly Mansour central interchange station. The Minister inspected the station’s berths, the external and internal yard, and the places for distributing Ticket Vending Machines ( TVM ) to facilitate passenger access to tickets, as well as mechanisms, corridors and places of connection between the LRT and other means of mass transportation, as it will be a central interchange station between a large number of transportation means, including a metro station for the third line “opened and operating” and a station for the light rail “LRT” , Cairo-Suez railway station, SuperJet station, and BRT bus station , which will run on the Ring Road. The Minister stressed the continuation of coordination with all concerned parties to re-plan the areas surrounding the station to appear in an aesthetic and civilized manner and to achieve the required traffic flow between these areas and Adly Mansour station in implementation of the directives of the political leadership. The Minister also inspected the railway station at the giant Adly Mansour central interchange station, and was briefed on the investment plan for the station’s mall, as well as the development rates of the (Cairo/Suez) railway, which starts from Adly Mansour station to Suez with a length of 117 km, where the distance from Adly Mansour to Al Rubiki is doubled, with a length of 35 km, the efficiency of the line will be raised in the distance from Al Rubiki to Suez, with a length of 82 km. The Minister stressed the railway leaders to run Tahya Masr and Russian trains in conjunction with the opening of the LRT project, to provide distinguished levels of services to the public of passengers whom coming from the cities east of Cairo (Al Mustaqbal, Al Shorouk, Badr, New Administrative Capital and 10th Ramadan City Center), to Suez Governorate and vice versa directly, to form a safe, clean and modern means of transportation to serve the citizens. Then, the Minister boarded one of the LRT trains which is being on pilot operation from Adly Mansour station to the City of Arts and Culture station in the New Administrative Capital, where all the project’s 22 trains have arrived and are being piloted along the project’s path, which includes 26 buildings and an area of 77 feddans. He also followed up during his tour the readiness of the parking areas next to all the project stations, and pedestrian bridges that implemented to facilitate the citizens movements, stressing the need for optimal investment use of all stations to increase the economic return of the project. The Minister of Transport reviewed the implementation status of phase 3, which extends from the Arts and Culture station to the central interchange station with the High Speed Train on Sokhna Road, with a length of 18.5 km, and includes 4 stations, and he was assured of the progress of their implementation rates. It is noteworthy that the LRT project achieves the exchange of service at the central interchange Adly Mansour station between a number of transportation means, exchanges service at Badr Station with the Cairo-Suez railway line, in addition to exchanging the passenger service with the High Speed Train Ain Sokhna / El Alamein at the Central Capital station, with Monorail East of the Nile “New Administrative Capital” in the interchange station in the City of Arts and Culture in the Administrative Capital, which includes trade and investment area to maximize the investment return of the project. The Minister continued his inspection tour to follow up on the implementation rates of the East Nile Monorail project (New Administrative Capital), which extends from the Stadium station in Nasr City to the Justice City station in the Administrative Capital, with a length of 56.5 km, and includes 22 stations and is implemented through a joint ventures between (Alstom - Orascom – Arab Contractors). The Minister inspected a number of the project sectors. The Minister started with the Fifth Settlement sector, and followed up the implementation of piling works, columns, beams and installations of maintenance and emergency walkways, stations along the track, and directed that the thing be returned to its origin by all the ways in the project implementation sectors. He also followed up on the rate of supply of mobile units, as 6 trains arrived, the last of which was on 19/5/2022, and the seventh train is scheduled to arrive on 8/6/2022, out of a total of 40 trains that will be supplied to Monorail project east of the Nile (New Administrative Capital). The manufacturing of the rest of the project’s mobile units fleet will be completed as it will arrive successively according to the specified schedule. The Minister directed all workers of the project to work around the clock and exert their best effort to complete the project according to the specified schedule. Noting that this project is considered one of the mass transportation means that will serve the New Republic, whose foundations have been established by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, pointing out that it will connect the Greater Cairo Region with the new urban areas and cities to the east (New Cairo - Administrative Capital), and will contribute in facilitating the movement of employees and expatriates from Cairo and Giza to New Cairo and Administrative Capital, in order to integrate it with the Metro Line 3 at the Stadium station in Nasr City and the LRT at the City of Arts and Culture station in the Administrative Capital. The monorail project is also being implemented In Egypt for the first time, it will represent a major cultural shift in mass transportation, which is fast, modern, safe and environmentally friendly, saves fuel consumption, reduces environmental pollution rates, relieves traffic jams on main axes and streets, and attracts passengers to use them instead of private cars to reduce fuel consumption. It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Transport is also implementing the West Nile Monorail project with a length of 42 km, bringing the total length of the two Monorail projects (East / West Nile) to 98.5 km with 35 stations, and the capacity of each of the two monorail lines is 600,000 passengers/day. The Monorail consists of 4 cars, and it is planned to increase the number of cars to 8 cars, with the increase in population density in the new urban areas it serves.
