President El Sisi inspects development and maintenance work on Cairo's Ring Road

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi inspected on Friday the extensive development and maintenance work underway on the Ring Road which loops around Greater Cairo. The revamping work, executed along 106 km, includes improving the efficiency of the road, expanding it to 8 lanes in each direction, and the development of entry and exit ramps. It also includes upgrading transportation buses lanes and stops on the road under the smart transportation system, which will be implemented on all highways. The new smart transportation system is expected to usher in a breakthrough in transportation systems and end overcrowding caused by informal bus stops. During the inspection, the President met with several officials tasked at work sites on the Ring Road, including El-Monib Bridge along the Nile, which is currently seeing expansion work to be home to 8 lanes in each direction, up from four. The president was briefed on the development work, which aims to upgrade the service provided to road users, accommodate high traffic density throughout the day, lower transportation time, and reduce the consumption of energy by vehicles in order to limit negative environmental effects. El-Sisi also inspected the development of nearby roads and axis at El-Asmarat neighborhood as well as the linkage to the Martyr Axis and Shinzo Abe Axis, which aims to achieve improved traffic flow and lower accidents' rate.
