On 29th August 2020, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi inaugurated number of the national projects in petroleum field, housing of Bashayer El Kheer 2, tertiary wastewater treatment plant in Borg El Arab, development of Mahmoudia Axis and Borg El Arab silos complex. This was in the presence of Dr. Ali Abdel Aal – Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives, Dr. Moustafa Madbouli – Prime Minister and number of ministers and military leaders.
In his speech, Dr. Ali Meselhy – Minister of Supplies and Internal Trade said that the importance of silos and the national project of silos is that wheat is considered strategic commodity no. 1 in our country, we use about 10 million tons/year. Previously, it was stored in barns, especially the exposed ones. Then, the barns developed into hangers’ forms, the loss was not less than 10 to 15% of the total amount. Our dream to have storage capacity to store wheat without any loss has become true. Now, we accomplished 35 silos in 22 governorates.
Eng. Hossam El Din El Reefy – Board Member of the Arab Contractors Company declared that the company implemented the wheat silos of Borg El Arab in Alexandria. This project is one of the funded projects by OPEC and the beneficiary is the Egyptian Holding Company for Silos and Storage. It is considered one of the biggest wheat silos in Egypt with a storage capacity 90000tons with total value 110.680 million EGP for local component and 7 million US$ for foreign component.
He added that the project comprises 18 cells with a storage capacity 5000tons (total 90000tons); the silos received 200tons/hour. They are linked by upper and lower conveyor belts; the movement of wheat is controlled by PLC and cleaned up by sieve and dust extraction systems in the silos. In addition to these, there is sensors system to preserve the wheat temperature and protect it for a long period.
Eng. El Reefy emphasized that the project includes an administrative building consists of 3 floors, laboratory, mosque, washing room, number of serving buildings which comprises pumping chamber, buildings of electricity, workshop, spare parts, storehouse; water tank and truck scale “Bascula”. Besides, the project provides business opportunities for the inhabitants of Borg El Arab city and its surroundings.
It is a noteworthy that these works was implemented by Alexandria Branch and Workshops and Central Factories Department.
