President El Sisi witnesses the inauguration of East Port Said Port, 3rd July Tunnels and 30th June Axis

President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi inaugurated through video conference number of the mega national projects in Egypt among them the First phase of East Port Said Port, Port Said Tunnels, 30th June Axis which the Arab Contractors Company participated in its implementation with Egyptian companies. This was in the presence of Dr. Moustafa Madbouli – Prime Minister, Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces Mohamed Zaki - Minister of Defense and Military Production, Gen. Kamel El Wazir – Minister of Transport, Dr. Assem El Gazar – Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, number of ministers, governors of Port Said, North and South Sinai, Eng. Mohsen Salah – CEO and Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, Eng. Sayed Farouk – Senior Vice Chairman, Eng. Emam Afify – Vice Chairman, Eng. Mohammed Abou Deshish –General Supervisor of South Port Said Tunnels projects, Eng. Osama Kamal –Executive Board Member and Supervisor of the Equipment Sector and Eng. Mubarak Mansour – Head of Canal and Sinai Sector. At the beginning, President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi inaugurated the First phase of East Port Said Port with a total length 5km. The President declared that the development of East Port Said has been around since 15 years but it was delayed due to the huge amount of funds required. President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi witnessed the inauguration of 3rd July Tunnels which passing under Suez Canal on kilo 19.150. Its depth reached 42m from the Canal surface; it is considered one of the biggest national projects. It links between South Port Said and Sinai. Besides, it links between West and East of Canal cities to facilitate the trade movement in Suez Canal. The President was keen to take memorial photos in front of 3rd July Tunnels with number of workers and technicians in the tunnels. Then, the President Al Sisi inaugurated 30th July Axis which is a dual freeway 95 km length and 80m width. It started from South Port Said passing by the International Coastal Road Port Said/Damietta; it extends to the South till kilo 94 Cairo/Ismailia desert road. The axis has two directions, each one of them has 5 traffic lanes (2 lanes for the heavy transport and 3 lanes for the vehicles). The new axis has 11 main bridges and 6 sub-bridges, 16 tunnels, toll station for trucks and cars. It is a noteworthy that the quays of East Port Said is 5km length, 5 companies were assigned to implement it; the Arab Contractors Company implemented 1000m length of the quays divided into Zone 4 and Zone 5 each one of them has 500m length with a total value 950 million EGP. The Arab Contractors Company under the supervision of the Engineering Authority for the Armed Forces implemented 3rd July Tunnels – the Northern Tunnel for cars passing under Suez Canal in South Port Said. It links between Sinai, East of the Suez Canal and Delta. Besides, it facilitates the movement of the passengers and goods from Sinai and having the inspired development for this region. The excavation works started in 2015 and continues for 4 years, it includes 3 phases: planning, installation of the TBM and its operation, finalizing the excavation works according to the time schedule although there were many challenges, such as: carrying out the excavation works in in unstable mud soils successfully by adjusting its properties through adding a mixture of crushed gravel and sand to prepare it for workers and equipment’s transport; besides adjusting the tunnel boring machine “TBM” because there is a percentage of methane gas in the soil and freeze the soil to build the horizontal access. Regarding 30th June Axis, the Arab Contractors Company carried out the dredging works, soil replacement and crossovers with a width up to 80m inside El Manzala Lake; constructing 3 foundation layers, each layer is 45cm thickness and width varied from 55m to 77m. In addition to bonding layer with 7cm thickness and surface layer 6 cm thicknesses. The participating departments from AC in the implementation of the project are Sinai Branch, Upper Egypt Roads Department and Maritime Structures Department with total cost 300 million EGP.
