The Prime Minister is on an inspection tour to follow up on the revitalization, upgrading, and development of surroundings in Cairo

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly – the Prime Minister and his companions inspected during their tour today in Cairo Governorate the project to improve the visual image of the squares and main streets in Downtown area, which comes within the comprehensive plan to revive the heart of historic and Khedival Cairo. The tour included a visit to Al Qadi Al Fadil Passage in Downtown, where the Arab Contractors Company restored the facades of 10 buildings. Eng. Mohamed Elwy – Board Member of the Arab Contractors Company explained that the restoration of the building facades has been completed in full and the general site works are currently being finalized. During the tour, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly inspected the project to revive old Opera area, which aims to restore the cultural and historical character of the area, as it is one of the most prominent cultural and heritage landmarks in the heart of Khedival Cairo. In this context, Cairo Governor explained that the project includes developing the facades of Opera Garage building and the attached administrative building, by implementing a facade inspired by the architectural style of the old Egyptian Opera building on the facade of the current Opera Garage, which contributes to restoring the visual and historical identity of the place. Dr. Ibrahim Saber added that the project also includes the development and restoration of the facades of 7 properties overlooking Opera Square, in addition to the installation of modern architectural lighting units, and the standardization and modification of shop signs, which will contribute to improving the visual image of the area and preserving its civilized character. Eng. Khaled Rayan – Manager of the Distinguished Structures Department at the company, added that work has been completed on two buildings and work is ongoing on the remaining buildings. The governor pointed out that the development work also includes the redesign and development of Opera Square, including lighting work and the development of the area surrounding the statue of Ibrahim Pasha, with engineering modifications to the square that are appropriate to the project of converting the administrative building of the Opera Garage into a hotel, which will allow for the provision of a parking area in front of the hotel entrance. He added that a comprehensive traffic study has been completed, along with the architectural design and feasibility study for the project to convert Opera Garage’s administrative building into a hotel, as part of a plan to maximize the use of existing assets and support tourism and investment activity Downtown Cairo.
