Head of the Egyptian Armed Forces Engineering Authority and AC Chairman Following Up Work Progress in Suez Canal Tunnels in Port Said

Head of the Egyptian Armed Forces Engineering Authority, Major General Kamel El-Wazeer and Eng. Mohsen Salah – AC Chairman following up the preparatory works in Suez Canal Tunnels in Port Said.
Eng. Mohsen Salah declared that the project is among the national plan to develop Suez Canal region to enhance its role and be a distinguished international center in logistics, industry, integrated economically and balanced from environmental and spatial view. The project scope of works: 2 tunnel for vehicles, another for railways to link between East and West Canal and executed by JV consisting of the Arab Contractors and Orascom under the supervision of the Egyptian Armed Forces Engineering Authority with a total cost exceeding EGP 8 billion.
Eng. Sayed Farouk – Vice Chairman that the 3 tunnels are considered of the biggest huge tunnels in the region, the internal diameter for each tunnel is 11.4m and the external diameter 12.6m and 20m depth. He added that the 2 vehicles tunnels one from Port Said to Sinai; the other is vice versa separated by 20m, each tunnel is 2.85km. The length of the railway is 6.7km according to the shop drawings and the international consulting offices designed the project. The project scope of work includes diaphragm walls for the entries and outlets; in addition to the execution of bridges, culverts and linking roads.
Eng. Mohamed Abou Deshish added that there are ongoing preparation for the construction of the services area built upon 350 000m.
The total excavation works reached 2.75million m? and the filling works to enhance the soil specifications. The amount of precast concrete for the segment works is 280 000 m? and the concrete amount for the diaphragm walls; entries and outlets 730 000 m?; concrete for industrial works 30 000 m?.
