Dr. Ahmed Rostom - Minister of Planning and Economic Development, and Dr. Jacqueline Azer - Governor of Beheira inspected the development work at Rashid Port, one of the most prominent national projects currently underway in the governorate for the development of shipbuilding and maintenance, with government investments of LE 700 million. Besides, they inspected the development project of historical city of Rashid. The tour included Eng. Nihad Morsi - Assistant Minister of Planning for Infrastructure Affairs, Mrs. Heba Abdel Moneim - Assistant Minister for Human Development Affairs; ministry officials, Major General Wael Hamza - Assistant Secretary General of the Governorate; Major General Khaled Raslan - Undersecretary of the Ministry and supervisor of several sectors at the Governorate's General Office, Eng. Hisham Safwat –AC Executive Board Member, which is implementing the development work; and Eng. Mohamed Fayyad - Deputy Manager of Alexandria Branch. The development work is being carried out on an area of 48,000m2. The project includes a modern and integrated infrastructure network, new berths for receiving ships, specialized workshops for ship maintenance and repair, an integrated area for maritime services and industries, in addition to the administrative and service facilities necessary to operate the port according to the latest standards. The project is being implemented in two phases. The first phase includes the construction of ship painting workshops, a workers' rest area, warehouses and port administration offices, an engineering department, a heavy equipment depot, a wholesale and retail fish processing and packaging building, an electrical power distribution and supply building, and a tank building comprising two upper and lower water storage tanks. The second phase includes the construction of a fish refrigeration building, an ice factory for preserving fish, a customs facility, and a fishing line production plant. This will contribute to developing the maritime services system and enhancing the port's operational efficiency. Dr. Ahmed Rostom declared that Rashid Port Development Project is one of the strategic projects being implemented by the state as part of its comprehensive plan to develop ports and strengthen the infrastructure supporting the maritime transport, fishing, and logistics sectors. It also represents a key pillar within the national project for the development and modernization of Rashid City. In the same context, Dr. Jacqueline Azer - Governor of Beheira confirmed that the project is one of the most important national projects being implemented in the governorate, as it represents a strong addition to the local economy, its role in attracting investments, raising the efficiency of the port and maximizing the benefit from its economic potential, as well as providing more than 5,000 direct and indirect job opportunities for the people of Rashid city and Beheira Governorate.
