Arab Contractors has successfully completed the excavation and lining of the tunnel for the third track between Al Arish and Al Matbaa stations on Cairo Metro Line 4. This brings the total tunneling within the company’s scope of work to 55%. Eng. Sayed El Wazir - Vice Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, Eng. Hassan Ibraheem - Board Member, Eng. Mohamed Abu Desheesh - Head of the Sector Supervising the Project, and Eng. Abeer Morsi - Executive Board Member and the Project Manager, participated with the teamwork in receiving the tunnel boring machine “TBM”, after completing the excavation of the 796-meter-long track. This process involved complex preparations to receive the TBM, including assembling and installing a 12.6-meter-long, 7.30-meter-diameter steel cylinder, and filling it with a mixture of sand and cement to ensure complete insulation of the TBM as it penetrated the station’s concrete wall. It is a noteworthy that the TBM is 100 meters long and weighs 685 tons, while the diameter of its front shield is 6.7 meters. All 531 concrete rings forming the tunnel’s body have been installed, with the tunnel’s outer diameter reaching 6.4 meters and its inner diameter reaching 5.8 meters. These concrete rings are manufactured at the Arab Contractors Company’s concrete ring factory located on the project site.
