The Prime Minister follows up on the implementation plan for expanding the construction of seawater desalination plants

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly - Prime Minister, held a meeting at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital to follow up on the implementation plan for the expansion of seawater desalination plants. The meeting was attended by Eng. Sherif El Sherbiny - Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Dr. Sayed Ismail - Deputy Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Dr. Mohamed Hassan - Head of the Regulatory Authority for Drinking Water and Wastewater, Eng. Hassan Mustafa – Senior Vice Chairman of the Arab Contractors Company, Eng. Heba Abu Al Ela - Vice Chairman and a number of officials. The Prime Minister declared his keenness to follow up on the water desalination issue and reported the updates given its importance. The government is implementing more projects and expanding the construction of more desalination plants, utilizing the latest technologies to meet the growing development and production needs for drinking water. During the meeting, Eng. Sherif El Sherbiny reviewed the Ministry’s efforts in the field of seawater desalination, seeking to maximize the benefits of alternative water resources. He pointed out that the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to provide infrastructure and implement the strategic plan for seawater desalination, particularly in coastal cities and areas. The Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities discussed the comprehensive implementation plan for desalination plants to be established until 2050, as well as the urgent desalination plants required to meet demand up to 2030. He stated that the ministry aims to adopt modern technologies through partnerships with local and foreign private sector institutions to localize desalination-related industries and reduce production costs. The Minister also showcased several projects that have been completed or are underway across governorates including the Red Sea, Matrouh, and South Sinai. He emphasized that priority is being given to expediting the completion of these projects and bringing them into operation.
