Prime Minister inspects LRT project (El Salam - New Administrative Capital - 10th of Ramadan)

Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouli inspected, on Saturday, the work progress on the light rail transit “LRT” project (El Salam - New Administrative Capital - 10th of Ramadan). He was accompanied by Eng. Kamel El Wazir - Minister of Transport, Major Gen. Khaled Abdel Aal – Cairo Governor, officials of the Transport Ministry and the executing companies. The Prime Minister began his inspection tour by noting that the Egyptian Government has begun, in the past few years, to implement several major national projects in the field of transportation which forms part of the government’s efforts to connect the Greater Cairo region with new cities that are being constructed nationwide. Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli said that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi paid special interest in the development of the transport system nationwide, including the new cities. It includes upgrading the level of service provided to citizens through this system. The Prime Minister also noted that work continues around the clock on these vital projects, in an effort to complete its operation. He noted that the government is also providing all the necessary capabilities to implement these projects, coinciding with the preparations that are in full swing to move to the New Administrative Capital. Moreover, the Prime Minister inspected the Adly Mansour interchange station, which will include an integrated transport complex and a commercial investment area on15 feddans. Here, commuters will be able to change between five different means of transport. The station includes a Cairo Metro Line 3 station that has already been opened and started operating, as well as an LRT station, a railway station “Cairo – Suez”, a Superjet station, in addition to the bus rabid transit “BRT”. The Prime Minister was briefed on the executive status of several stations in LRT project, whose implementation rate reached 88%. He started his tour by inspecting the works of Al Obour station, following up on the railway installation works on the bridge of the project, which includes basalt, flanges and bars. In this regard, Minister of Transport indicated that these works were completed in a number of sectors. The Prime Minister and his companions inspected LRT’s workshop. For the LRT light rail, which includes 26 buildings and its implementation rate reached 67%. He inspected “Geneva” bridge, which is one of the bridges of the LRT. The Minister of Transport declared that the project includes 4 car bridges, which already accomplished, they are as follows: Hykestep – El Mostakbal 1 - El Mostakbal 2 – El Sherouk. He added that the project includes 7 LRT bridges "path bridges". He explored their executive status. Suez Bridge has been completed, while the implementation rate of 4 bridges has reached 99%, namely: Ismailia, Geneva and Al Robiki 1 and 2; the bridges of Capital 1 and Capital 2 are under construction and will be accomplished soon. Eng. Kamel El Wazir - Minister of Transport pointed out that the LRT includes the construction of 3 tunnels which implementation rate reached 100%, namely: a car tunnel at the Capital's parks, and 2 LRT tunnels; the first is New Heliopolis, and the second is Badr. He declared that the total implementation rate of the construction works for the first and second phases of the project "civil - finishing" reached to 88%. The Prime Minister followed up the implementation works of the 3rd phase of LRT project, which includes the New Administrative Capital 3, Strategic Command, Sports City, and the central interchange station with LRT. The Minister of Transport emphasized on the JV of “AVIC / Creek” the necessity of speed up the completion of the remaining supplies with the approval of the Tunnels Authority in preparation for the start of installing and testing the systems, especially that the stations will be completed soon. The project’s path will be ready by the end of this month in preparation for the arrival of 2 trains by the end of next July; this is in preparation for the start of its testing and the start of its pilot operation. It was also confirmed that all these works will be carried out in parallel with the completion of the manufacture and supply of trains, that the pilot operation will take place that the official inauguration for the first and second phases will be in next October. ? During the tour, the Minister of Transport pointed out the importance of this project which is a new development artery for new urban communities, such as: Al Obour – Al Mostakbal – Al Shorouk – New Heliopolis – Badr – Industrial Zone – 10th of Ramadan – New Administrative Capital . He pointed out that the LRT will exchange service Cairo Metro Line 3 at Adly Mansour Station, with LRT (Ain Sokhna - Al Alamein) in the central station, Monorail of New Administrative Capital at the station of Arts and Culture City. The Minister of Transport also noted, during the inspection, that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi gave directions concerning the necessity of extending the route of LRT to 10th of Ramadan City to serve its inhabitants. Thus, the total length of the route will be 103.3 km with 19 stations, after adding 10th of Ramadan’s stations 2, 3 and 4 to reach 10th of Ramadan city. The route starts from Adly Mansour Station parallel with Cairo-Ismailia Desert Road to Badr City, then branches north to 10th of Ramadan City and south to the New Administrative Capital to reach the International Sports City. The Minister of Transport pointed out that the project is divided into 3 phases; the first phase extends from Adly Mansour station to the Capital station (1), and the second phase extends from the Capital station (1) to the station of Arts and Culture City and the third phase extends to the south with 4 stations "3 higher and 1 at-grade" (Administrative Capital 3 - Strategic Command - Sports City - Central interchange Station with HST). The minister added that a contract for the management, operation and maintenance of LRT was signed between the National Authority for Tunnels and "RATP DEV". He emphasized that it was necessary to implement this contract during the implementation period and finish the stations due to the presence of the company, to meet its demands during the implementation, and to get acquainted with the works to be ready for operation immediately after the implementation of the construction work.
