Dr. Ali stated that the dream of the people of this region is to lay the foundation stone for this project; he thanked President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for his caring about the people of Upper Egypt which reflected through mega national projects aiming at development. Dr. Madbouli pointed out that Daraw Axis is one of the important development axes which currently executed on the River Nile by the government in Upper Egypt. He said that it was stated to construct an axis connecting the East and West of the River Nile on every 50km, but nowadays we construct an axis on every 25km which will facilitate the traffic for the people and the goods. Besides, it will fasten the development process in East and West of the River Nile. After laying the foundation stone, both of Dr. Ali Abdel Aal and Dr. Moustafa Madbouli listened to an explanation about the project from Major Gen. Adel Turk who stated that the axis is considered the latest axes that are established on the Nile in Aswan; it will connect its sides horizontally and expand from East to West. It started from Cairo-Aswan eastern agricultural road to the western desert road crossing over the River Nile and passing through the western agricultural road. The laying of the foundation stone was in the presence of Eng. Sayed El Ansary – Head of South Valley and Red Sea Sector, Eng. Mohammed El Shehaby – Manager of South Valley Branch, Eng. Heba abou El Ela – Deputy Manager of the Bridges Department, Eng. Anas El Sagheer - Deputy Manager of the Bridges Department, Eng. Mohammed Gouda – Manager of Bridges Researches in the General Authority for Roads and Bridges, Eng. Ahmed Nosseir – the Manager of Projects in the General Authority for Roads and Bridges and Eng. Moustafa Gomaa – the Project Construction Manager. It is a noteworthy that the axis is 18km length, its width over the River Nile reached 25km and the width of the rest sectors of the axis is 21m. It is consisting of 10 industrial works of bridges and tunnels. The pathway of the axis from the eastern side starting with a bridge over the eastern agricultural road passing by a bridge over Al Tawaysa drainage and another bridge over Daraw lake crossing over the River Nile and Daraw drainage with a higher bridge; it is including 4 outlets and 2 stairs for serving the inhabitant. Before crossing the west of the River Nile there is a surface bridge over the Nile for the existence of an island in the middle of the Rive Nile's stream moving to a bridge over the asphalt road and a tunnel to serve the agriculture movement in the region to reach the bridge of the western agriculture road until reaching the western desert road. Daraw Axis will be constructed on the River Nile using suspension method as an unconventional construction system to represent a new added-value experience in the field of bridges construction in Egypt. This construction system provides opportunity to avoid using the piles in the Nile's stream because it is hindering the navigation movement and distorting the aesthetic appearance. By using the suspension construction method, Daraw Axis will be an added value for the aesthetic appearance of the River Nile in Aswan and the charming nature in this area as an engineering masterpiece parallel to Aswan Cable-Stayed Bridge, consequently Aswan will be the First governorate which has 2 cable-stayed bridges.
