Inauguration of Amr Ibn El-Aas Mosque

Within the framework of Damietta celebration of its national day, Mohamed Sayed Tantawy, the Grand Imam of Al Azhar, Dr. Mahmoud Hamdy Zakzouk – Minister of Awqaf and Head of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Dr. Fathi al-Baradai - Damietta Governor and Eng. Ibrahim Mahlab - President and CEO of the Arab Contractors Company inaugurated Amr Ibn El-Aas Mosque which became a historical, archeological mosque and touristic site. During Friday sermon attended by more than 3000 prayers, the Grand Imam praised and thanks Damietta Governor and the Arab Contractors Company for the mosque restoration to its brightful image as an archaeological and Islamic monument. The Grand Imam said that he congratulates Damietta Governor for the national day and the historical victory on the Crusaders in Faraskour on 750 Hijri and for this recent restoration of Amr Ibn El-Aas Mosque. Besides; he congratulated the Arab Contractors for their great efforts. The mosque comprised 4 corridors as in the tradition of mosque building during this time – as in Prophet Mohammed Mosque (PPUH). It was designed in the form of rectangular dimensions of 60m X 45m and its total area is 3240m?. Its architectural condition get worst and the mosque closed for 30 years resulting from rise of the underground water. Thus, the Arab Contractors Company assigned to the restoration and development works of this mosque to regain its former elegance as a historical Islamic landmark witness our great history.
