Dr. Ahmed Moustafa Shawki

Dr. Shawki is the Managing Partner of Mostafa Shawki & Co.
As Managing Partner,
Dr. Shawki has ultimate oversight responsibility for all aspects of the office including audit, tax, and consulting divisions. He is directly involved in many of the audits and financial consulting engagements related to privatization undertaken by the firm. These include participating in the privatization of several companies under the Engineering Industries Holding Company; directing the feasibility and marketing studies for the privatization of the television production studios and open-air shooting facilities; and participating in the decisions on the sale of both the Pepsi Cola and Coca-Cola bottling plants. He also serves on the general assembly for the Food Industries Holding Company.
Dr. Shawki is committed to the improvement and expansion of the business environment in Egypt as evidenced by his many professional-related activities. He participated in the development of audit and accounting standards for Egypt. He has worked with the Capital Market Authority to rationalize policies for the evaluation and audit of unit trusts. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Society of Accountants and Auditors and the Egyptian Taxation Society. Dr. Shawki meets regularly with USAID, the World Bank and the IMF both in Cairo, and in Washington during annual "Door-Knock" trips to discuss development in Egypt. He prepared several position papers for the United Nation's Private Sector Development Conference.
Mostafa Shawki & Co. assisted two Egyptian utilities companies with tax reform oriented to the private sector under an international aid-funded contract. More recently, Dr. Shawki has advised a US multi-national power company and a French state-owned telecommunications company on their investment in Egypt’s power and telecommunications industry by way of the build-own-operate-transfer scheme. In addition, the firm under the leadership of Dr. Shawki has instituted accounting reforms for publicly owned companies into private sector. Mostafa Shawki & Co. is providing assistance to an international donor with the implementation of socio-economic reforms.
Of special note is the fact that Dr. Shawki is the Past-President (served as President 1997-1999) and a founding member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt. He has also served as Executive Vice President, Treasurer and Vice President, Program. In these roles he has organized, chaired, and participated in innumerable conferences and seminars concerning business development in Egypt. He has developed significant contacts with all levels of political, financial, and business leaders, engaging them in policy dialogue and problem resolution. He continues to play an active role in the American Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Shawki has spoken at several high-profile conferences on Egypt’s privatization program both in Egypt and overseas in London; New York, Washington, DC and Stanford University in the United States; and in Bahrain. In the course of his career, Dr. Shawki was a member of the Ethics Committee of the International Federation of Accountants from 1983 to 1993 and has published numerous research papers in the U.K., France and Egypt.
