Eng. Hisham Saad Mekawi
Chairman, BP Egypt
Hesham Mekawi graduated from the Faculty
of Engineering, Cairo University in 1983. He worked as an engineer for four years
before traveling to the US and dedicating himself full time to pursuing a Master’s
degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Boston University.
In 1990, Mr. Mekawi joined Amoco in Egypt as Economic Analyst. In 1991, he began
an international assignment in the US, working in Houston as Senior Economic Analyst,
and then Chicago in the Strategic Planning Group and the Financial Operations Group
as Senior Financial Analyst and as Planner. In 1995, Mr. Mekawi returned to Houston
as Commercial Director and took charge of business development in the Middle East.
Following the announcement in August 1998 of the merger between British Petroleum
Company and Amoco Corporation, he was appointed Executive Assistant in BP Amoco
Exploration, London. One year later, he was appointed the role of Business Unit
Leader for Oil Operations in Algeria, working from the company’s headquarters in
London.
In July 2001, Mr. Mekawi retuned home to become Chairman of BP Egypt. |
