Mr. Abdel Salam Moustafa El-Anwar
Chairman of HSBC Bank in Egypt
Abdel Salam El Anwar, Chairman and CEO of HSBC Bank Egypt, is a Director of HSBC Bank Middle East Limited. He is also Board member of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), member of CBE Monetary Policy Committee and member of CBE Banking Development Committee and Board member of the Egyptian Banking Institute.
In addition he is also Board member of the New Urban Communities Authority, the Arab Contractors and member of the Egyptian British Business Council and Treasurer of Future Generation Foundation.
Moreover he is Board member of the Egyptian Foundation for Technological Education Development (Nile University) and of the Citadel Capital Scholarship Fund. He was previously a member of the Egypt-US Presidents’ Council.
Mr. El Anwar started his banking career in 1975 when he joined Chase National Bank. During the 14 years he spent with Chase National Bank, he held several senior responsibilities amongst which were Head of Treasury and General Manager Branches. He also had assignments in Singapore, London and New York, and in 1987 he was appointed Senior General Manager of Chase National Bank Egypt. In 1988, he filled the position of Regional Manger at Saudi Cairo Bank, Saudi Arabia. In 1991, he joined HSBC Bank Egypt (then Egyptian British Bank) as General Manager.
In 1994, he was appointed Managing Director and in 2001 he was designated Deputy Chairman & CEO of HSBC Bank Egypt and since 2003 he holds his current position as Chairman & CEO.
